Coaches thoughts.....
Coach Cliff gives his thoughts on another busy weekend
Hi Chieftains Fans,
I’m just trying to recover the hearing in my left ear from the noise our travelling fans were making in Invicta last night, I don’t know about numbers but the noise coming from the away blocks was unbelievable, thanks to you all for travelling and helping to push us over the line.
Going into the weekend, we knew that it was a tough one, against 2 teams who certainly can and do get results against everyone in this league, Solent had already beaten us in their building this season and Invicta gave us a big scare back in September the last time we visited, so we knew we had to be on our game.
Saturdays game was a bit bitter sweet for me, the score, the points on the table and the performance for parts of the game were exactly what we needed, but the discipline and the amount of time we spent killing penalties was unacceptable and totally out of character for us the way we have been playing of late. On another day with slightly better finishing and slightly better luck we could have scored 12 goals, but it was one of those days, however we also never should have let it get to 6-4 as the game should have been over a long time before if we hadn’t continuously given Solent chances with the extra man.
On Sunday we went to a rink which is extremely hard to play in, and we got what we needed to. I think 3 points out of that rink is to be celebrated however they come and although I wasn’t overly impressed with the first 2 periods, when a gauntlet was laid down and the boys were challenged between the second and third they reacted and we got what we set out to get.
That weekend had potential banana skin written all over it, so however we achieved the points, 6 is 6 and we can’t be too negative about how they were achieved, just need to ensure we are making improvements moving forward as we approach this weekend where we play Streatham back to back in the cup.
Thanks for as always for your loud support both home and away, see you soon,
Cliff.
