Lightning strikes twice!

Ben Russell becomes our second lightning signing of the week!

Chieftains are delighted to welcome defenceman Ben Russell to the Black ’n’ Gold for the forthcoming NIHL1 season. The 29-year-old started his career at Milton Keynes as a junior before moving across the pond to continue his hockey education in Canada and the United States for five seasons. He returned and signed for Milton Keynes Lightning in the 2013/14 season where he remained for two seasons before moving on, signing for Manchester Phoenix. Peterborough and Streatham were his next stops before returning to his hometown Club. He iced for the Lightning for the next four years and has now decided to make the move to Chelmsford and join former coach Lewis Clifford as the Chieftains look for some silverware. He has also played internationally for GB at both Under 18 and Under 20 level.
Coach Lewis Clifford commented “It’s always nice to have players in the team who you know you can trust night in, night out, to just get on with it and do what’s expected of them, and Benny is one of those. I have coached him on and off since he was a really young kid and he’s always given me the same thing, 100% commitment and desire to do his best for the team. Benny will work as hard as anyone on the team every night and be a guy I can put on the ice at any point in a game and I know exactly what I will be getting. I’m sure the fans at the riverside will love his style of play and no nonsense approach”.

When asked about his decision to come to Chelmsford Ben remarked “I’m buzzing to have signed for cChelmsford this season. I’m looking forward to meeting all the lads and I’m excited to start enjoying hockey again. Me and Cliff have worked together many times before so I’m looking forward to working under him and working towards bringing some silverware to the riverside. See you all in September!”.

So Welcome to Riverside Benny…Welcome to the Black ’n’ Gold!
