Charity Night
A special night for all - raising money for our chosen charity, Aching Arms
At the beginning of the season, the club chose Aching Arms as it's charity for the 22/23 season.
This charity holds a very special place in the clubs heart and Sundays game was played in loving memory of Leo Pallett-Bartlett.
Fans were eager to see the one-off charity shirt designed by Sofia Gatland (aka Sign Girl), some of the players shirts were up for for raffle, and other shirts formed part of an earlier auction. There must have been some nervous and excited fans wondering if they would be lucky enough to secure one of these extremely rare shirts, all would be revealed after the game!
Now to the game itself, it was obvious during the warm-up that MK Thunder were extremely short benched and fans were hoping that this would play into the Chieftains hands for a great home result.
The puck dropped, and the first period was off, Chieftains went straight on the offence, the MK netminder made a few early nervous saves but soon settled into the game, as the first period played out, there was alot of end to end action, with both netminders making some great saves, thankfully Cameron Bartlett managed to find some space and thread a puck through the traffic, first goal to the Chieftains, the fans could hear the cheers from the ice and the cheers were then sent back from the crowd, the Chieftains were in the lead! As the period was nearing the end, MK Thunder equalised and the first period ended 1-1.
The second period started, and at this stage, you would never have guessed that MK Thunder were short benched, they were definitely bringing the fight. TJ Fillery, always a fast paced player, managed to skip through the MK defence, calm and collected, one on one with the netminder, he successfully slotted home Chieftains second goal, we were fortunate enough to be beside TJ's family and this section of crowed errupted above the rest of the crowd, another great goal.
In the third period, both teams were tiring, but there were some displays of individual brilliance to come. Oli Baldock had control of the puck, he weaved his way through various MK players, found some space and scored an amazing goal, highlighting the talent that Oli has. The crowd were up on their feet again! The MK netminder was pulling off some great saves during the final period, and the score line would have been alot higher if it wasn't for his efforts. As the game was nearing it's end, Dan Hitchings took a shot from distance, it appeared to make a deflection and bobble over the ice, heading towards the goal, Keiran Raynor was close by, you could tell that he was watching the puck to ensure it went over the line, initially the goal was given to Dan but it was later awarded to Keiran as he was required to turn it in to ensure the goal. The final period ended 4-1 to the Chieftains.
Huge kudos to MK Thunder, they were short benched, but still managed to bring a great game. Their netminder earned himself man of the match, thoroughly deserved, he faced 67 shots in total for the game.
Petr Cech earned man of the match for the Chieftains, showing the impact both netminders had on the game.
After the game, fans got a chance to skate with the players raising further money for our chosen charity, Aching Arms, rounding off a very special night for all.
We hope you all enjoyed our charity night, we're extremely pleased and proud to annouce that we raised £4972, a huge total and a massive thank you to everybody!
Thanks again for all of your support.
