Coaches thoughts.....

Coach Cliff gives his thoughts on Saturdays win against Oxford City Stars

Hi Chieftains Fans,

I hope you’re all well and enjoyed the game on Saturday.

Oxford are the first team we’ve faced twice so far this season, they’ve made a few signings since we played them back on the first weekend of the season, they turned up a little bit short in numbers and we were missing Lawds, Benny and Fayzer as well.

We had a dream start scoring almost immediately from the first drop of the puck but we got way too sloppy after that, I know the guys were trying to do things the right way but were probably also getting too far ahead of ourselves and Oxford ended up equalising with a nice goal, definitely deserved at the time.  From the mid point of the first period we started to find our shooting sticks and couldn’t stop scoring, ending the period 6-1 up.

In the second and third Oxford came out with a bit more of an edge and we allowed ourselves to get way too involved in that side of the game and the play got broken up by minor penalties and lots of whistles, I have no problem with the way they played, they can’t just take it lying down, but we need to be smarter and stay out of that sort of stuff in games like this.

I think the shots ended up 64 to 15 so we had a lot of the puck and scored some nice goals in the second and third, 5 on 5, PP and a couple of shorties as well.

All in all have to once again be happy with 3 points and a lot of goals and again like last week the scoring was spread around the team which is always nice to see. This weekend we play Cardiff who we know very little about followed by Slough who we know pretty well although they’ve had a bit of a reshuffle in the offseason so will be good to reacquaint ourselves with them.

Thanks to everyone for your continued support, see you at the weekend,

Cliff.
