Chieftains vs Invicta Dynamos

A superb display from the team ending with a convincing win!

The Chieftains were up against Invicta Dynamos, which is always an entertaining and lively game with years of intense rivalry between both teams. Home fans were delighted to see Liam Chong back in the Chieftains lineup too!

The puck dropped for the first period, and it didn’t take long for the Chieftains to stamp their authority on the game, they were passing the puck extremely well and placing Invicta under immediate pressure. At 0:58, assisted by Cameron Bartlett and Dylan Dix, Grant Bartlett was able to score the Chieftains opener, it was 1-0, and the home fans cheered! The attacking play continued, but Invicta’s defence was holding strong. Invicta tried to mount their own attacks early in the period, but these were soon eliminated by the Chieftains defence. As the middle of the period approached, the play became more even, but to be honest, Invicta never looked like scoring. At 14:38, assisted by Grant Bartlett and Callum Wells, Alan Lack was able to score to make it 2-0, and the Chieftains started to gain more control of the game. At 17:56, Mikey Power stretched the Chieftains lead even further to make it 3-0, he was assisted by Dan Hitchings and Hallden Barnes-Garner. The first period ended 3-0, Lawday faced 8 shots, but Invicta had faced 22.

For the start of the second period, Invicta were more fired up, they were the ones doing much more of the attacking, and the Chieftains were being pegged back. Invicta had much more control of the game, but Jordan Lawday was pulling off some heroic saves to keep them at bay. The Chieftains defence were working hard and as a solid unit, frustrating Invicta, but at 33:05, James Laming was able to claw a goal back for Invicta, and the Riverside felt quiet (but only briefly). The Chieftains were now the ones fired up, and at 36:37, assisted by T.J. Fillery and Sam Russell, Cameron Bartlett was able to score to make it 4-1, the Riverside was rocking, and the home fans were loving the intensity of the game. The second period finished 4-1, Lawday faced 20 shots, and Invicta faced 10, highlighting how the balance had changed in the game.

As the puck dropped for the third and final period, Invicta were fired up once more, they attacked hard, and once again, Jordan Lawday was making some phenomenal saves, much to the home fans appreciation. The Chieftains took a penalty, and Invicta were on the powerplay. It didn’t take long for Invicta to score. At 42:56, Tom Soar scored to make it 4-2, and travelling Invicta fans had found their voices. As per Invicta’s previous goal, this fired up the Chieftains once more. It didn’t take long for the Chieftains to silence Invicta’s supporters, much to the delight of the home fans. At 43:31, Alan Lack scored a great goal to increase the Chieftains lead, he was assisted by Cameron Bartlett and Callum Wells to make it 5-2. The Chieftains took the momentum further, they were gaining more control, and the attacking play continued. At 46:47, assisted by Cameron Bartlett and Alan Lack, Grant Bartlett scored to make it 6-2. Invicta’s travelling supporters were now extremely quiet, and the Chieftains kept on attacking. At 49:39, tempers started to fray. Mads Thune and Alan Lack were both sent to the sinbin for roughing, followed shortly after by Dylan Dix and Dan Scott. This didn’t deter the Chieftains one bit, they kept on pushing, and at 50:29, assisted by Grant Bartlett and Liam Chong, Cameron Bartlett scored to make it 7-2. Invicta tried to come back, the play was end to end, but with Jordan Lawday between the pipes, they just couldn’t close the gap. For the last few minutes, the Chieftains started to push again, and at 58:18, assisted by Cameron Bartlett and Alan Lack, Grant Bartlett was able to score to make it 8-2 and claim his hat trick of the night. The period ended 8-2, Lawday had faced 13 shots, and Invicta faced 12.

Grant Bartlett was awarded Man of the Match, acknowledging his first hat trick of the season. Well done Grant!

The Chieftains had put on a great display, it was a really entertaining game, and the home fans enjoyed beating Invicta once again!
