Coaches thoughts.....
Coach Cliff gives his thoughts on our six point weekender!
Hi Chieftains Fans,
Hope you are all well, time to start feeling festive now December is here, but still 4 more games of hockey to deal with before Santa arrives.
This past weekend was definitely a long one, most of Saturday was spent on the road to Cardiff and back, and then straight back at it on Sunday when we faced Romford, I know I got home late on Saturday night and was back in my car less than 12 hours later to come to Chelmsford, so some of that can be an excuse for the slow performance on Sunday, however we know we need to find a higher level of performance every night no matter how we are feeling.
Saturday’s game was always going to be a bit of an unknown until it started, Cardiff for as long as I have been involved in hockey have been much better at home than they are on the road, and it seems this season is no different, they took the lead twice and we went into the third period tied at 2-2, but we managed to give our legs a shake and our heads a wobble in the third and seal the game with a strong period to run out 6-2 winners.
Sundays game wasn’t one for the purists, it was everything a hockey game shouldn’t be, slow, low event, probably a bit boring. Some of that is definitely down to the long travel and late night, but it isn’t the first time we have been far away from home on a Saturday night and it won’t be the last so we need to make sure we are up for these type of games no matter the situation or circumstances. One huge positive from Sunday was the performance of our young 4th line, Eden and Sam have been with us a lot lately, and we signed Ben Beldecos on a 2 way with Haringey in the week after training with us for a few weeks and the three of them were outstanding as a line on every shift which bodes well for the future.
This weekend we take on the Swindon Wildcats, we know we can’t take them lightly as they gave us a scare when we played them in their rink a few weeks back, their results have really picked up lately, so we will have to come ready to play to make sure we keep this run going.
Hope to see you all there,
Cliff.
