Breaking news…
Cliff provides an update on the team
In a season when there have been more injuries and other issues than we would have liked, we have made a couple of moves to help us as we move through the Christmas period and into the second half of the league, cup semi finals and eventually playoffs.
With us still being unsure on how long Ben Russell will be out, after skating with us for a few weeks, John Connolly has agreed to play for us on a medium to long term basis, JC is someone I have coached before and has played many years in Chelmsford so he has fitted in well and looks sharp in training, it will be great to see him back in a Black & Gold jersey, we are all missing Ben and hope he will be back soon but it’s great to have someone like JC available to help us.
Ollie Baldock is getting closer to a return which we are all massively looking forward to, however we have been stretched on certain weekends when our young players aren’t available, so we have taken the step to sign Matt Lawday from Swindon who will join us for the rest of the season, obviously Matt is Jordan’s brother so when he said his brother was looking for a new team I was straight on it, again Matt will provide us with extra legs and more options moving into the tough part of the season, I have known Matt for a number of years and he knows this league well, always putting up points even on lower placed teams.
The young players who have been playing for us on 2-ways, Sam Bettell-Higgins (Warriors) and Ben Beldecos (Haringey) obviously along with Eden (who’s been with us for quite some time,) will continue to play with us as and when available, these guys have exceptional attitudes and we will manage their development by working closely with all the coaches they work with at various levels to make sure they are getting ice time every weekend at the appropriate level.
There has been less stability in the line up than I would have liked this season but hopefully these moves should mean we have players available on all nights who are able to play their correct positions and less need for players to play out of position, the boys have done all that can be asked of them to this point and we aim to get better every night.
As always thanks for the ongoing support, it’s the last big push now for a couple of weekends and then we can all have some time off over Christmas and attack the New Year when it arrives.
Cheers,
Cliff.
