Coaches thoughts.....
Coach Cliff gives his thoughts on our double weekender
Hi Chieftains Fans,
Thanks a lot for supporting us last weekend at home and on the road, certainly a weekend where we went from one extreme to the other, but unfortunately after taking our winning streak to 10 games on Saturday, it was ended on Sunday in Streatham.
Saturdays game was relatively routine for us, Oxford did well to keep us out for as long as they did, absolute heroics from Miller in their net frustrated us time after time, but we got where we needed to in the end and barring a 5 on 3 penalty kill right at the end of the game we would and should have finished with a clean sheet, I felt we were comfortable all night, never really needed to get into the higher gears but at the same time on another night we could have scored 10 or more, but a win is a win.
Following the news that Streatham had lost in Solent on Saturday night we were looking to make it a 6 point weekend and create a little buffer between us, unfortunately we didn’t take that chance and by the end of the weekend we were basically right back where we started in relation to the Redhawks. Our discipline wasn’t good enough, we weren’t clinical when we had chances and we got away from doing the things that we had done so well to be on a 10 game winning streak in the first place. We were only narrowly outshot by Streatham but that doesn’t tell the full story, most of our chances were 1 offs on the rush and we never really created long stretches of zone time which has been on of our strengths this season.
You can’t win them all, and if you think you can you’re in for a nasty surprise somewhere along the line, but we were frustrated with our performance when all was said and done on Sunday. We will do what we will always do after a setback, which is move forward positively.
Onto Oxford this weekend for our final game of 2024, we hope to see some of you there.
Cheers,
Cliff.
