Another Six Point Weekend!

With two great home games, the Chieftains have yet another perfect weekend!

The Chieftains had a weekend of two home games, the first against Cardiff on Saturday saw a comprehensive display from the whole team, resulting in a 10-1 win. On Sunday they were up against Invicta Dynamo’s. Could the team complete a perfect six-point weekend?

The puck dropped for the first period, and straight away the Chieftains flew forward and put the Dynamos under immediate pressure. Alan Lack was leading the charge, and Invicta were camped in their own end for pretty much five minutes of the game. At 06:19, assisted by Sasha Maltsev and Matt Lawday, Sam Russell scored to make it 1-0 and take the Chieftains into an early lead. The pressure was ramped up even more on the Dyanmos, and a mistake from Lillis enabled both the Bartletts to mount an attack in front of the Invicta goal. At 08:06, assisted by Grant, Cameron Bartlett scored to make it 2-0. Lillis was not impressed, but Grant Bartlett had a huge smile on his face. After a few nervy minutes from Invicta, the play evened out as both teams settled into the period. Invicta made some good breakaway plays, but Jordan Lawday put in some early great saves, and the Chieftains continued to attack. As you’d expect from an Invicta game, it was becoming quite physical. The Chieftains were putting some lovely hits on the Dynamo, much to the home fans amusement. The period ended 2-0, Lawday faced 11 shots, whilst Invicta faced 17.

The home fans didn’t have to wait long into the second period before there was another goal. At 21:18, Grant Bartlett was assisted by Cameron Bartlett and Ollie Baldock to make it 3-0. Invicta were on the ropes once more as the Chieftains applied almost constant pressure. At 22:42, the home fans had another goal to celebrate, courtesy of Mikey Power (who was assisted by Dan Hitchings). Invicta were struggling badly, their passes weren’t connecting, and the Chieftains were taking advantage. As per the first period, the play soon evened out, Invicta were trying to counterattack, but the Chieftains had a lot of the puck, and they continued to push. At 28:55, Invicta were becoming more and more frustrated, and a fight broke out between Callum Wells and Sam Oliver. Callum dealt some massive blows at the beginning, but Oliver managed to get his shirt over his head, Callum kept going for it and successfully took down Oliver. Invicta were trying to ramp up their attacks, and Lawday was starting to be put under pressure. At 33:51 there was a hive of activity in front of the net. Invicta managed to claw a goal back, but the Chieftains remained unfazed. They continued with their attacking play, but ultimately there were no further goals to come in the period. The second ended 4-1, Lawday faced 12 shots, Invicta faced 8.

The start of the third period was a lot like the second, with the Chieftains going straight on the attack. At 42:28, assisted by Sasha Maltsev and Richie Pickering, Matt Lawday scored a great goal to extend the Chieftains lead even further, but Invicta came back with an almost immediate reply. At 43:45, Mads Thune scored to make it 5-2. The action was end to end for most of the period, the physicality also continuing, but the hits were clean, and the period was littered with only a few penalties. The Chieftains looked incredibly comfortable managing the last few minutes of the game. The home fans started to count down the last few seconds, and then the buzzer sounded. The Chieftains had done it! Another very successful six-point weekend!

Callum Wells won Man of the Match for his efforts, well done Callum!
