Jay King of the world!

Chieftains sign experienced defenceman Jay King to the black 'n’ gold

Chieftains are delighted to welcome Jay King to the Black ’n’ Gold for the 2023/24 season. The 27 year-old Edinburgh born defenceman came through the Murrayfield youth system. He made his senior debut for Edinburgh Capitals in the Elite League in 2012-13, the first of over 200 appearances for the Caps.

In 2018 Jay moved south of the border to Basingstoke, joining the Bison in where he iced for the past five seasons, again he played over 200 NIHL games so he’s definitely not lacking experience.

Coach Lewis Clifford stated “I’m really happy to be able to bring Jay in for the forthcoming season, he will be a huge part of our blue line and brings with him a massive amount of experience, ranging from Scotland to England and from the Elite League to the NIHL”. He continued “Jay will be a solid addition to the team, both on the ice and in the locker room, and will help the development of some of our younger D Men as they get to train and play with a guy with such wide ranging experience.

I look forward to working alongside Jay when the season comes round and I’m sure all the Chieftains fans will make him very welcome”.

When asked about his decision to come to Chelmsford King commented “Firstly I’d like to thank Lewis for the opportunity to come on board for the upcoming season. I feel that this is a fresh start for me and I’m really looking forward to reigniting my passion for the game again. I’m hoping to use my knowledge and experience to help the team each night and hopefully bring in some silverware to Riverside”.

So Welcome to Riverside Jay, Welcome to The Black ’n’ Gold!
