Coaches thoughts
Coach Cliff give his thoughts on our weekend of away games
Hi Chieftains fans,
We are well and truly into the season now with games coming thick and fast, but it will be great to get back home this weekend after a double away game weekend.
The two games we played last weekend were both good tests for us in very different ways, and give us plenty of food for thought and things we must iron out of our game and get better at.
On Saturday in Romford, the Buccaneers came out hard at us, as expected with such a youthful side, playing at home in a local derby. It took us a while to figure them out and settle into the game, but once we did we managed to take control of the majority of the game and seal the win, it wasn’t our finest performance, but at this stage of the season we will take results over performances in any match.
Sunday’s trip to Invicta was a tough day, we really didn’t get going consistently for the majority of the game, we looked tired and leggy for most of the evening, and I felt the result on the night was a fair reflection of the game. Across the board, we weren’t good enough, we had patches where we showed what we were all about and it was encouraging that we kept going literally until the final buzzer, but we all know that we have to be much better than that when we play against the top teams in the league, particularly in rinks like Invicta that are hard to play in. We have a good group and there was no finger pointing or shirking of responsibilities after the game, we know what we need to fix, and we will start working on those things immediately.
It was nice for me to be able to bring Logan Prince in for the weekend, he’s a guy who has played for me in the past, he knows how I like my teams to play and has a sky high work rate, he is unable to commit to playing hockey full time this season due to work and home life but he will remain registered with us and will play for us when we are short on bodies and he is available, I am sure you’ll all get used to seeing him pop in and out of the line up across the course of the season.
The support on the road was fantastic last weekend, so thanks from all of us on the bench and ice, you guys are definitely the loudest fans we have experienced anywhere so far this season, keep it up and as we find our way we will start to reward you more with the results on the ice.
Thanks for reading and see you around the rink!
Cliff.
