Coaches thoughts

Coach Cliff provides his thoughts on this weekends away win.

Hi Chieftains Fans,

Thanks a lot for the amazing numbers you turned out in on Sunday in MK, it was amazing to see how many of you travelled for a late face off on a Sunday, we certainly made a lot more noise than the home fans and I’m sure that played its part in the win.

The game was quite frustrating at times, it’s easy to get sucked into doing things you shouldn’t in games like that, I felt we played well for the first 5 minutes or so, a section in the middle of the second period and then in the third we shut the game down and got out of there with the points.  There were too many shifts and chunks of time in the game where we were miles away from our plan and the play became individualistic and fragmented. We dominated large parts of the game, outshooting the Thunder by 53 shots to 20, but rather than using this as a sign of dominance we grew frustrated that we weren’t scoring more, a win is a win, they are all worth 2 points and it’s important that we don’t lose sight of that or have a perception of what a score line should be that takes the focus away from the end goal each night which is always the 2 points.

This weekend and next we play Streatham who will most certainly give us a test but also an indication of where we are at, whilst Slough are topping the table at the moment, recent history proves that Streatham are the standard we all need to reach if we want to be winning trophies in April, I am looking forward to these battles, I know the boys are as well, and I’m sure you guys are too.

Thanks for taking the time to read.

All the best,

Cliff.
