Coaches thoughts
Coach Cliff gives his thoughts on our overtime win!
Hi Chieftains Fans,
Thanks a lot for generating so much noise in the rink on Sunday, it’s certainly the loudest I have heard it since I’ve been here and definitely helped the boys get over the line in what was a bit of an epic game in the end.
We were missing some huge parts of the team at the weekend, however we still had enough to win the game, as was demonstrated….. eventually. We started well, maybe a little too well for our own good, before the Dynamos woke up and got their noses in front. At the end of the first period I wasn’t overly concerned as I knew we weren’t even into second gear yet, but I told the team if they didn’t start playing right then, the game would get away from us, luckily the guys realised who we are and went out and dominated the second period. The third period was sloppy and leggy, I thought we played well for parts of it and made tired mistakes in executing the fundamentals in other parts, the D were worked really hard for the whole game, playing with 4 D-Men mostly, with the 2 young lads chipping in with the odd shift to help the others out, which they did admirably. Once we got to overtime I think we had total control and whilst I hate overtime and the lottery it can be at times, there’s nothing better than scoring an OT winner when you know that’s that and you’ve secured the 2 points.
Sometimes it’s best to just accept that you won, bank the points and not think too much into it, especially when you’ve found a way whilst missing such key parts of the team, we know where we need to be better moving into this weekends big double header.
Thanks a lot for your support, see you at the rink for the big charity game, let’s raise loads of money for 2 fantastic charities which are very important to us as a club.
Cliff.
