Lidds Steps Up

Chieftain’s defenceman Neil Liddiard is moving on

Chieftain’s defenceman Neil Liddiard has announced that he will be moving on after being given the chance to step up a league.

Liddiard stated to his team mates “I just wanted to let you all know before any announcements are made that unfortunately I will be moving on. I have been given the opportunity to move back up a league and having limited time left in my hockey career (being so old!), I wanted to take the opportunity. I have had a great time playing for the Chieftains it is a quality organisation. Derek and Karen do a top job, you are all a great bunch of lads and Mark is a fantastic coach. Best of luck for the rest of the season”.

The experienced 44 year-old D man initially announced his retirement from the game at the end of the 2021/22 season, having played six years at his home town club Swindon Wildcats. He made a surprise return after the summer signing for the Black ’n’ Gold. His wealth of hockey experience is valuable, especially to a young squad. But his desire to play at a higher level once again is too strong to resist and unfortunately the pre-Christmas MK fixture was to be his last in Chieftains colours.

Coach Mark Saunders commented “Obviously I’m disappointed to see Lidd’s go, his commitment to the game is first-class and he will be missed. But that’s hockey and we move on in the New Year hopefully with a fuller bench with players returning from injury.”

We wish Neil the very best in his move and the rest of his hockey career.
