Coaches thoughts
Coach Cliff give his thoughts on this weekends results
Hi Chieftains Fans,
First things first, I would like to say a massive thanks to everyone who attended on Sunday and helped us raise a fantastic sum of £6,472 for Aching Arms and 4 Louis, two charities that mean a lot to us as a team. The rink was bouncing and it was amazing to see so many of you staying behind to skate with the lads even though it was late on a school night. It’s the first time I’ve been involved in anything like this since joining the club and I was blown away by the response from everyone.
Saturdays game was a bit disappointing, we struggled our way through it, never really looked like ourselves and ultimately walked away empty handed. It is impossible to play proper hockey in that building, last time we went there we got our heads round it almost immediately and dominated, but on this occasion we didn’t make those adjustments and ended up wasting the opportunity.
Just 24 hours later, and Sundays game was the exact opposite, I remember writing one of these last time we played Romford at home and struggling to find much to say at all that was positive, but this time round we corrected those wrongs. The Buccaneers are a young side with a lot of speed and some very talented players who if given time and space can be deadly as Oxford found out the previous night, we weren’t 100% but I was happy with the way we applied ourselves to the game and grafted for the win, everyone contributed from the youngest to the oldest, and it was nice to stretch the bench in the third period and let everyone play as much as possible.
This weekend will be the last time we play in 2023, a league game on the road against Romford on Saturday followed by a cup game in Streatham on Sunday, we will be looking to round the weekend out with a couple of wins to go into the festive period on a high.
Once again on behalf of the whole team, thanks a lot for the amazing fundraising effort at the weekend, we should all be proud to be part of such an amazing club.
Cliff.
