Coaches thoughts
Coach Cliff give his thoughts before the mid season break
Hi Chieftains Fans,
The time has come for our mid season break and I feel it’s come at a good time for us, the last few weeks we have struggled for a bit of consistency and started to look a little rough around the edges, when we return we have 9 league games remaining, and it’s all still very tight at the top, we are locked on points at the top of the table with Streatham and Slough, with 1 and 2 games left against them respectively (they also play each other twice,) however they both have games in hand on us, we will have to be more consistent when we come back in the new year and there are areas of our game that need work which we will address as soon as we are back together on the ice, it should be a great end to the season for both the team and supporters.
Over the weekend we had just the one league game in Romford followed by a cup game in Streatham, at the moment it’s unclear how the Britton cup works and how you actually go about winning it, but either way we need to put Sunday behind us and look to win the remaining games so we can be there or there abouts once the format is decided / communicated to us.
Saturdays game wasn’t one for the purist, but 2 points are 2 points and I think we did well to walk away with the points and rise above the uneven playing field we were forced into playing on. It’s not often I will let the boys make, or take excuses as we control our own actions and behaviours, but in all my years of playing and coaching I don’t think I’ve ever walked away from a win so unhappy with the way the game panned out, and I think for once we did have an excuse for the closeness of the game as we were battling on from an unfair position from start to finish. Everything that has happened up until now is in the books, and we can look forward to what 2024 has in store.
I would just like to wish everyone involved in the club whether that’s players, staff, officials, owners, sponsors, helpers and supporters a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, I hope you all get to spend some time away from work and the real world with your family and friends and have a great time, for those of you who find this time of year tough I hope you’re able to get through it as best you can, we will all be here for you on the first weekend of January when normal life resumes.
All the best, and seasons greetings,
Cliff.
