Coaches thoughts

Coach Cliff give his thoughts on the weekends win against MK Thunder

Hi Chieftains Fans,

I hope you’re all well and looking forward to some cup action this weekend as we take on the Slough Jets, firstly in their building on Saturday and then back home on Sunday.

2 legged games can be tough to navigate sometimes, and across the season our games with Slough have been extremely close, it’s important for us to be at our best for 120 minutes, it can be hard to realise that a goal scored / conceded in the first period on a Saturday is just as important as one in the third period on Sunday, but that’s exactly the case and we have to make sure we are fully aware of that from the first drop of the puck on Saturday.  Playing knock out games is exciting, you’re close to playing for a trophy but still have a big task ahead of you to get to that point so the stakes are high and that can bring the best out of players, we are all very excited about it.

Last weekend we just had the one game against MK, whilst they’d had a bit of an upturn in form the previous few weeks, they turned up short benched and the game swung in our favour on the very first shift and continued that way throughout. It’s hard to read too much into a game like that, we did make a few errors that we will look at this week, outside of that it’s tough to take much else from the game. It was nice to be able to give everyone lots of ice time, put players on special teams that don’t normally play on them, and see the scoring spread throughout the lineup.  The boys can only play what’s in front of them, and they did a professional job of going about their business without being disrespectful or ungracious.

A good week of practice is needed to set us up for this big weekend against Slough, and I hope you’re all ready to get behind the boys.

Thanks for reading.

Cliff.
