Coaches thoughts
Coach Cliff give his thoughts on a busy weekend
Hi Chieftains fans,
I hope you are all well and enjoyed a weekend of hockey after a free weekend, it was good to be back and now it is full steam ahead to the end of the season.
We went into last weekend a little short on players but we still had enough bodies to make it work and I think we had a fairly decent weekend. I feel we are probably all suffering a little with Slough fatigue at this point in the season, we played them for the 10th time on Saturday, losing in OT. There was a lot of positives to take from the game, the result whilst always being the main target was second on the list in preferences to the team executing in a few areas that I asked them to, where we are looking to change a few things and dial them in for the playoffs, some of these things are new and some are refreshers on things we were maybe doing earlier in the season that we had got away from a little bit, I felt the boys did a great job of this and we probaly hit about 3.5 out of 5 items on my tick list.
We all know OT is a lottery, but it is also a learning experience, we had chances to win it before we lost it, and those things need to be ironed out when we could potentially see OT in the playoffs at any stage.
On Sunday we played a team that we know all about and just had to be professional and get the job done, as much as league positions define a teams season, MK are not as easy to play against as the table may suggest, they work really hard and teams that work like that with little structure are tough to figure out and beat. It was great to see our special teams firing, and a mention has to go to Eden Rolfe who scored his first Chieftains goal, Eden has been a pleasure to work with this season, he comes to the rink every night wanting to learn and most importantly wanting to work, he is a very young man but we all love having him as part of the team and I think the boys were happier for that goal than they had been for any other all season.
Thanks for reading, look forward to seeing you all at the rink soon,
Cliff
