Coaches thoughts

Coach Cliff give his thoughts on an amazing weekend of results

Hi Chieftains Fans,

Not sure we have all recovered from the weekend just yet, a lot of road miles and 125 hard minutes on the clock, but the 4 points made the Monday morning alarm clock a little more bearable.

Thanks to everyone who travelled on one or both of the days over the weekend, it makes such a difference going to not 1, but 2 of the more hostile rinks in the league, and all we can hear is the Chieftains fans, and hopefully you felt you were rewarded for your volume!

As the league season draws to a close, my summary would be good but not quite there just yet. For my first season at the Riverside coaching a new team with many new faces, I think 2nd is a good place to be, and certainly the last few weeks we have really started to see what this team is capable of.  Our league record against the other top 3 teams (Streatham and Slough) has been very good, but we all know where we cost ourselves earlier in the season, and it’s a learning experience for us as a team and as individuals.

We have a couple of weekends of cup games now, whilst it’s not ideal to be playing cup games in a cup that’s already done and dusted, it does give us chance to try a few things and play without pressure while we get ready for the playoffs.

As it stands it looks like it’ll be Oxford on the 30th and 31st March and as we all know playoff hockey is a whole different ball game to regular season hockey so we will be spending the next couple of weeks looking at them and refining our game for that challenge.

I know I say it every week but after the noise you guys created over the weekend I would just like to thank you for your continued support, it’s not unnoticed and wouldn’t be the same without you, so thank you again.

See you at the rink.

Cliff.
