Wellsy returns to Riverside
The squad continues to grow...
Chieftains are delighted to be able to announce the return of 26 year-old blue-liner Callum Wells to the Black 'n' Gold.
Callum progessed through both the Romford and Chelmsford junior system, making his senior debut for the NIHL2 Warriors in the 2014/15 season. The following season he made the progression into NIHL1 with the Chieftains. His physical style of hockey immediately made him a firm favourite with the fans, never backing down from a challenge.
He remained at Riverside for two seasons before returning to his hometown club of Romford icing for Raiders 2 in NIHL1 for a couple of seasons. In 2019/20 he once again stepped up a league and has played NIHL hockey for the Blue 'n' Gold for the past four seasons.
Coach Lewis Clifford stated. "I’m really pleased to be bringing Callum back home to Chelmsford, he will add stability, experience and strength to our blue line. I’ve know Callum for a while from the other side of the ice, but never been able to coach him before so I’m looking forward to getting that going when the season starts. I’ve heard nothing but positives from the guys who know him so I’m sure he will fit straight in with little need for familiarisation with the club".
When asked about his decision to return Callum replied "I'm really excited to be back playing for the chiefs this season. They are a great team, and I enjoyed playing for them a few seasons back. It will be a nice change up coming into this league, I know a lot of the team already and am looking forward to playing along side them this season! Also looking forward to being back on the ice with a big atmosphere from the chieftains supporters!".
So welcome back to Riverside, the home of the Black'n'Gold Callum.
