Coaches thoughts.....

Coach Cliff give his thoughts after a fantastic week of results

Hi Chieftains Fans,

Another week ticked off the schedule and it was a successful one for us with 2 cup wins against Invicta and Oxford.

Saturday was a good performance, Invicta are a good team who can give you problems any night, and it was important for us to play the game the right way to nullify their strengths and limit their chances. We weren’t perfect but we were more clinical in front of net that we have been for a while, with all the lines contributing.  We started the game a bit slack defensively, too much standing around watching and a hesitancy to step up and take away space, but we got better as the game went on and saw the game through with minimal fuss.

Sunday was a tough one, I’ve said before that Oxford is a tough place to go, it is and no matter what lineup they ice on a given night it’s never easy to get a result there. We came out and we weren’t ready to play, whether it was a case of complacency or what I don’t know but at the point we went 3-0 down, enough was enough and we had to start playing. Once we started giving Dom more protection and getting the puck up the ice with more regularity, we clicked into gear and found our shooting sticks.

There are parts of the weekend where we have to make improvements, no one will deny that, but I can’t ask for much more than 4 points, so we will have a look to sharpen up before our games this weekend against MK in the league and Slough in the cup, it will be great to see you all at one or both of those games.

Thanks for your continued support, see you at the rink,

Cliff.
